New Braunfels Leo Clubs have been invited to support global literacy through the "Books Are The Beginning" initiative led by Lion Mike Thrasher. All of the Leos in District 2S3 are encouraged by our Leo District Chair, Tom Verducci, to join this meaningful project.
Please collect gently used or new hardcover children's books (Pre-K through 5th grade: picture books, early readers, non-fiction Grades 1-5, chapter books Grades 4-5). Books must be in good, clean condition - no textbooks or damaged items (including books written in). These books will be used to build two new libraries in Busia, Uganda.
We are encouraging all of the New Braunfels Leo Clubs to host a book drive.
Officers of each club are encouraged to set a goal for your club, create a flyer and begin a school-wide and hopefully community-wide participation effort in obtaining these needed books. The book drive should begin no later than April 1st and will go through April 19th. Officers of each club shall bring the books to the Mill Street Youth Center Leo Open House on April 19th. There will be prizes for the club that brings in the most books. Lion Vicky McCown and Lion Mike Stallings will be able to pick up the books from your respective school if needed.

Texas Lions provide a variety of programs to encourage youth participation in issues facing society today. Through its contests at the club level, the district level and ultimately the state level, students can research and gain knowledge on various social ramifications of both diabetes and substance abuse. These contests provide youth the opportunity to share leadership experiences and to make a difference in their school and community. These contests are open to all high school juniors and seniors.
The Texas Lions' Opportunity for Youth sponsors three main contests during the year.
Diabetes Awareness Essay Contest
